Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has been assigned the additional charge of the Ministry of Education following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation from the Union Council of Ministers on Saturday. President Droupadi Murmu accepted Pradhan’s resignation with immediate effect on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The President subsequently directed that Joshi take charge of the Education Ministry in addition to his existing portfolios. The major Cabinet development comes amid nationwide protests over alleged irregularities and the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy. Pradhan submitted his resignation earlier on Saturday amid mounting political and student pressure over the examination crisis. Joshi currently handles Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy. With the latest decision, he will also oversee the Education Ministry. Pradhan, in his resignation statement, said the interests and future of students were his priority amid the continuing controversy surrounding the examination.
